In this project we restored a tired looking, old deck. Our goal was to build and restore a New Deck for your Duxbury neighbor to create a wonderful Outdoor Living space.
The owners wanted to use Mahogany, a beautiful South American Hardwood which is naturally decay resistant. We pulled the existing Mahogany Decking, which was not spaced properly causing large puddles to form when it rained. This in turn was causing pre-mature rot so we secured it properly to allow for drainage. We then installed new railings and refinished the whole deck with a mahogany color preservative stain.
Let’s begin by showing off the beautiful new deck and how it looks today.
We wrapped the existing posts with mahogany, by miter-folding 1×6 boards together to create a post sleeve, and plumbing them as necessary to create straight sight lines. Some of the original decking was badly rotted in places and had to be replaced.
It is hard to imagine this is how terrible it looked before we began the project. In this next picture you can see the railings as they were originally, and the mahogany decking is need of some overdue maintenance.
Now our customer gets to enjoy a nice time outside with this pretty view.
